Rock Trust Kilt Walk 2009

Entertainment

The Kilt Walk takes place during the world famous Edinburgh Festival, and while we can’t guarantee good weather, we can promise a fun filled day for all the family. Make a day of it and revel in the festival atmosphere we’re creating at the Ross Theatre!

Event schedule:

11am - 12pm - The build up to the Walk will begin at 11am with a ceilidh hosted by comedienne Susan Morrison, and will feature Scots band Imelsa. No need to do stretches to warm up, a quick Gay Gordons will soon get you limbered up!

12pm - 1pm - The Kilt Walk takes place. The Edinburgh Postal Pipe Band will pipe the walkers off and pipe them home. This will be a good photo opportunity!

1pm - 4pm - The main event will be a Scottish concert featuring Commotion Women's Drummers and Cantara. There will be other family entertainment on offer, including face-painting and a competition to find the best-dressed tartan-clad walker.

The Route

The Route

The Kilt Walk’s 5km circular course will take you past some of Scotland’s most famous sights. Starting at the Ross Theatre in West Princes Street Gardens, you’ll walk around the Gardens, cross over the railway via the footbridge behind the Bandstand before walking below the Castle Rock itself.

The route then winds its way round the back of the Castle to the head of Castlehill on the historic Royal Mile. You’ll then descend Castlehill before dropping back down into Princes Street Gardens to complete a second lap of the Gardens, finishing back at The Ross Theatre.

The route has been designed to encourage as many people as possible to participate. The family friendly route means the whole family can get involved, and is an achievable distance for walkers of all abilities.

It will take a maximum of one hour to complete, passing some of Scotland’s most historic landmarks along the way. No other fundraising event offers you the opportunity to turn the streets tartan with hundreds of other kilted walkers!
