Here at The Rock Trust we would like to say a huge thank you for all those who got involved in this year’s Kilt Walk either by walking, sponsoring a walker or coming along and making a donation on the day. It was a wonderful event and we were overwhelmed by people’s generosity.
The day was kicked off by a pre-walk ceilidh in The Ross Band Stand with music from IMELSA who got everyone warmed up with their lively performance – including The Lady Boys of Bangkok who joined us for the start of the day.
Next up we were Edinburgh Rugby’s Nick De Luca and Phil Godman who very kindly posed for photos and donated a prize to our raffle as well as giving us some kind words of encouragement.
Then, at noon Cameron MacKay, our lone piper, took the 270 tartan clad walkers around the 5km route – led off from a rousing refrain from The Edinburgh Postal Pipe Band.
With the sun high in the sky we really couldn’t have asked for a better day. The fun didn’t stop there though. We were then entertained by the Celtic sounds of Cantara, and energetic performance by Commotion Women Drummers and Clanadonia.
Magic Ian was around to entertain the young walkers, who were all looking very colourful after a trip to our resident face painter.
Of course it goes without saying that we would like to thank all those who came along and performed on the day, making it an incredibly memorable event. Not only that, but we would like to say a special thank you to all those who worked away behind the scene, making the day the success that it was.
We would also like to thank Susan Morrison and Mike Stevenson who were such motivational compares on the day.
Now we’re hanging up our kilts for another year. Once again thank you to all those who got involved and helped us raise much needed funds to support young homeless people in Edinburgh and The Lothians. See you again in 2010!
